as a general guide, calculate 4 kilograms (just under 9 pounds) per square meter for a packed carpet. the weights of the different pieces of furniture vary too drastically for any handy example to be proffered; individual calculations will be necessary
if a package is small enough, it can be sent as an insured international parcel via the south african postal service at a reasonable cost
otherwise, a local freight forwarding service will effect the delivery by air which allows for two options:-
the shipper will arrange for the parcel to be cleared through customs at the receiving airport and delivered to a location address
the parcel will be shipped only as far as the receiving airport whereupon a clearing agent & delivery service contracted by the customer will move the goods though customs and deliver to a regional address. this is invariably the cheaper option, plus it means that someone the customer has contracted will be seeing the parcel through to its ultimate destination
